Newly-installed bulk tanks require minimum outlet
T
he Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) board has approved changes to minimum tank outlet and valve sizes on newly-installed bulk tanks. The change becomes effective Sept. 1. All newly-installed tanks less than 1,000 U.S. gallons must have, as a minimum, a two-inch internal diam-
eter outlet and valve. All newlyinstalled tanks of 1,000 U.S. gallons or greater must have, as a minimum, a three-inch internal diameter outlet and valve. As well, all these tanks—regardless of capacity—must have only processor-type butterfly valves and a triclamp or acme nut and thread con-
necting the valve to the tank. A newly-installed tank means new to an individual producer, and applies to the installation of previously used farm bulk tanks. The increase in outlet size, valve size and type requirement, as well as the use of good quality clamps, will increase pumping speed and result in cost savings. In the future, any farm not in com-
