Publication of this information does not constitute endorsement by The Milk Producer. he Lely Astronaut A3 Next Milking System and DeLaval VMS Voluntary Milking System are back in 2010 at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, Sept. 14 to 16 near Woodstock, Ont. The robots operate 30 feet apart on two herds of 35 cows each in the Dairy Innovation Centre. This one-of-a-kind operating barn demonstration also features products and technologies from more than 20 other dairy companies. All 70 dairy heifers from the centre will be auctioned at noon on Thursday, Sept. 16. Pedigree and production information will be available through auction staff. Thursday is also Dairy Day. Producers and their families can enjoy a complimentary breakfast sponsored by nine agricultural companies committed to Canada’s dairy sector. This invitation-only breakfast is a valuable networking opportunity for all in attendance. As well, the innovation centre is showcasing live research trials by the University of Guelph through August and September. The show’s newest construction project will demonstrate the inner workings of a life-sized biogas digester showing how manure and waste can be converted to energy. The Grober Young Animal Development Centre is showcasing live research trials Grober Nutrition has been conducting at the Woodstock site. Dairy calves and lambs are being studied for growth, nutrition and housing. You can see the young livestock and test Förster-Technik’s automatic calf feeders from Germany.
