R ussell Gammon, Jersey Canada’s longtime executive secretary recently received the Distinguished Achievement Award at the World Jersey Cattle Bureau (WJCB) Conference in New Zealand. Gammon started at Jersey Canada in June 1981. He was named secretary in November 1985 and executive secretary in March 1991. He has traveled to many countries on Jersey Canada business. He served as WJCB newsletter editor in the late 1980s to early 1990s, and as the bureau’s regional vice-president for North America from 2002 to 2008. During his time in the industry, 18 | April 2011 | MilkPRODUCER Gammon has observed some significant changes, including increasing interest in the Jersey breed in Canada during the past two decades. “Today’s Jersey is so much more productive than the Jersey of 1985 or 1990,” says Gammon. “Jerseys are in so many more barns today than they were two decades ago.
