DFCPROMOTION By Geneviève Fontaine Nutrition concerns for baby Public relations campaign brings new mothers and caregivers up to speed on key recommendations A recent public relations campaign by DFC’s registered dietitians has educated new mothers and caregivers of young children about current recommendations for breastfeeding, introducing solid foods and appropriate timing to introduce cow’s milk. An independent survey commissioned by DFC revealed surprising findings about how Ontario moms and caregivers are missing important basics when it comes to feeding baby. Campaign spokesperson Joanne Saab, a registered dietitian who spe- cializes in infant and toddler nutrition, gave several interviews to food and lifestyle media about the survey findings. She explained key recommendations and promoted the importance of a good nutrition early on. Topics she addressed included the amount of milk infants and toddlers need daily when transitioning to family meals, the importance of beverages, the importance of providing fullfat milk until two years of age and key strategies to help overcome some of the challenges parents and caregivers face. This campaign was developed and implemented based on DFC’s role as an expert on canadianparents. com, where many consumers have expressed confusion about when to introduce solids and milk to their infants.
