INDUSTRYROUNDUP Merger halted Holstein Canada and Canadian Dairy Network members have decided not to join together after all H olstein Canada and the Canadian Dairy Network will not be amalgamating their two organizations after lengthy board and member discussions showed inconsistent support for the merger. Board discussions on the matter began in 2010 and continued with members and industry partners throughout 2011. These discussions led to a report clearly showing the amalgamation, as proposed, was not a priority for some producers. “The content of the report, with its detailed feedback from each region, led the Holstein Canada board to this final decision,” said Holstein Canada president Paul MacLeod. “Some members acknowledge the changing dynamics of our industry and are open to new ideas. However, we did not obtain a clear majority to this change, at this time. We are a grassroots association; such a change required more support than obtained.” “Many of the producers attending the meetings across Canada The close working relationship developed during the past 18 months will continue, say both organization presidents. said CDN chairman Grant Roy. Meanwhile, as the CDN looks for its next chief executive officer, general manager Brian Van Doormaal will continue to steer the organization during the transition, said Roy. Although the two organizations will remain under separate governance structures, both presidents said the close working relationship developed during the past 18 months will continue. “Holstein Canada is a strong member organization of the CDN and we are both service providers to the same on-farm customers.
