Food myths dispelled
Sponsoring Nutrition Month lets DFC clear up misconceptions about nutrition and milk products
D
FC is once again sponsoring Dietitians of Canada’s Nutrition Month. The 2012 campaign tackles nutrition and food myths, and reminds consumers that registered dietitians are the most reliable source for nutrition and food information. DFC printed more than 32,000 French and English posters and educational pamphlets about nutrition and milk products to distribute to dietitians and teachers across Canada. The materials can also be downloaded from DFC’s nutrition2012.ca website. Some of the misconceptions the campaign seeks to address are: drinking milk causes mucus; cows’ milk is only good for calves, not humans; milk products are fattening; cows’ milk contains artificial hormones and antibiotics; lactose intolerance is a milk allergy. Sponsoring Nutrition Month lets DFC reach dietitians and nutrition leaders across the country, as well as grades 7 to 12 students and teachers. It also helps position DFC as a leader in nutrition education, and lets DFC promote healthy eating messages and milk products’ importance. Dietitians from other provincial dairy organizations also take part in Nutrition Month.
