Field-tested dip now approved
New robot pushes up feed
Bovitec combats mastitis.
Bovitec, a recently approved 0.5 per cent iodine teat dip from BouMatic, was rigorously field-tested in southern Ontario as a pre- and postmilking dip. Special surfactants in Bovitec help remove dirt, manure and soil from teats faster and easier before milking. The dip’s unique formulation also combats mastitis and improves teat-end condition with two per cent emollients. In comparison with a currently licensed 0.5 per cent teat dip, Bovitec reduced new Staph. aureus infections 51 per cent and new infections by other pathogens 54 per cent. Bovitec also left 16 per cent less Iodine residue in bulk tanks. To find your nearest BouMatic dealer, visit www.boumatic.com.

Lely Juno 100
L
ely has added the Juno 100 to its automated dairy solutions. An automatic feed pusher, it moves along the feed alley, pushing feed toward the feed fence without disturbing the cows. The Juno 100 creates continuous feed availability, resulting in increased dry matter intake and milk production. “We work to create products that answer dairy producer needs in a manner that benefits herd health, reduces labour challenges and increases producers’ bottom line—the Juno 100 is a perfect example of these efforts in action,” says Peter Langebeeke, president, Lely North America. “We hear time and again from producers that labour is the issue in providing constant feed. The Juno 100 makes this challenge a thing of the past.” The Juno 100 serves as the little brother of the Juno 150. The 100 offers constant feed availability, more frequent use of a milking robot if available, improved animal well-being and significant cost savings. You type the desired feed route into an e-link control on the machine only once. It then runs along the set route, returning to a charging station located at a convenient point in the feed alley between each run. The Juno operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. New to the Lely Juno 100 and 150 is improved smart software that lets the Juno push dynamically. It can now determine the distance it will need to travel to transport feed along the fence based on the amount of feed in the alley. It also lets you set four different feed types to assist in a number of situations. For instance, if you have an irregular feed pattern, feeding two times a day, have different feeding times every day, or only feed one time per two days, the Juno will take care of correctly pushing the feed in every situation. In addition to being efficient and effective, the Juno is exceptionally energy efficient, using 10 times less energy than a tractor or shovel, emitting four times less CO2.
