OSPE - The Voice - Spring 2014 - (Page 10)

UP FRONT EMPLOYERS, ENGINEERS CONNECT AT "E3" OSPE has joined forces with several Chapters of Professional Engineering Ontario (PEO) to present an exciting new series of Engineering Employment Event (E3) across the province. These highly popular events were created to respond to a growing need to effectively connect engineering employers with skilled engineers seeking employment. E3 events present invaluable opportunities for hundreds of engineering job seekers to meet face-to-face with companies actively looking to recruit engineers. Engineers are able to gain insights into job requirements, hiring outlooks and HR policies directly from top employers such as Toronto Hydro, GENIVAR, Enbridge, Bombardier, Capital One, TMIG, Ancam Solutions, Dillon Consulting, Crozier & Associates, Grantek, Pro Watts Inc., Unified Engineering, Valcoustics and many others. E3 events are open to OSPE members, PEO licencees and clients of municipal employment programs. A wide range of engineers have taken part, including new graduates, internationally trained engineers (ITEs) and even seasoned professionals looking to make a career move. The response from job seekers and employers alike has been overwhelmingly positive. In 2014, OSPE is hosting E3s in communities across Ontario, opening up important opportunities for more engineers and engineering employers to connect and engage. See our full 2014 E3 lineup and register for an upcoming session at www.ospe.on.ca. Job seekers, be sure to register early, as these events sell out quickly! If you are an employer interested in taking part in one or more of our E3s, please contact Marla Currie (416) 223-9961, ext. 234 or mcurrie@ospe.on.ca. TOM ANSLEMI ENGINEERS OF INFLUENCE Tom Anselmi, P.Eng., former Chief Operating Officer of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), took to the OSPE podium at Real Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Toronto, as the latest guest speaker in our new Engineers of Influence series. Tom spoke about how his ability to think like an engineer propelled his impressive career as an executive with some of the most popular franchises in professional sports. "Business is a lot of things, but solving problems, using good judgment and being a great leader are critical," Tom told nearly 65 attendees. "Engineering is a solid foundation for all of that." After earning his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Tom rose up through the corporate ranks with Canucks Sports & Entertainment in Vancouver, Rogers Centre in Toronto and then MLSE. Following his talk, OSPE members were invited to take part in an exclusive behind-thescenes tour of Air Canada Centre, home of the Leafs and Raptors. OSPE's Engineers of Influence speaker series showcases the achievements and insights of extraordinary Ontario engineers who have excelled in business, academia, the arts, public services and other arenas. Our next Engineers of Influence event will take place in September 2014, featuring another inspiring leader with an engineering background. Stay tuned to www.ospe.on.ca for details on this and other exciting OSPE speaker events throughout the year. 1 0 TheVoice Spring 2014 http://www.ospe.on.ca http://www.ospe.on.ca
