EMPLOYER RESOURCES WITHIN REACH
In January, OSPE launched the Engineering Employer Resource Centre for
Ontario companies that hire engineers. Use this exciting new web portal to gain
access to current labour market data and a wealth of HR resources and tools
for attracting and retain vital engineering resources. Search for resources using
keywords or by selecting from the categories presented. This valuable resource
is just a click away at: www.ospe.on.ca/resourcecentre. For more information,

ANNOUNCING A NEW HRPA-ACCREDITED
PROGRAM FOR EMPLOYERS
OSPE has developed Engineering Your
Workforce to Address Engineering Skills
Shortages, a unique new employer program designed to equip HR professionals
and hiring managers with tailored tools
and strategies to successfully assess the
skills of ITEs and other candidates in order to better attract,
recruit, hire, integrate and retain the skilled resources they
need from a wider talent pool. This program was developed
based on the results of OSPE's research report, Increasing
Employment Opportunities for Internationally Trained Engineers. The program will be delivered in various locations across
Ontario in 2014. Advance registration is required and space is
limited. For more information, including specific program dates
and locations, please contact Aarthi Vig at avig@ospe.on.ca.
EMPLOYER WEBINAR:
SKILLS SHORTAGES IN THE
ENGINEERING LABOUR MARKET
Last year, Engineers Canada released its updated
forecast of engineering labour market conditions
through 2020, which pointed to ongoing challenges
for engineering recruiters and hiring managers. Many
organizations will need to look at new talent sources
and recruitment strategies to meet their needs.
OSPE invites engineering employers to participate
in a complimentary webinar to develop a better
understanding of the implications of engineering
skills shortages and how recruiting and hiring practices
can be modified to accommodate a wider pool of
qualified candidates. Advance registration is required.

at jcoens@ospe.on.ca.
NEW OSPE REPORT HIGHLIGHTS EMPLOYMENT DISCONNECT
OSPE is pleased to announce the release of our research report, Increasing Employment Opportunities
for Internationally Trained Engineers.
With funding from the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada, OSPE commissioned Prism Economics
and Analysis to research and identify employer perspectives on engineering skills gaps and hiring challenges, with
particular emphasis on Internationally Trained Engineers (ITEs). The research was prompted by an apparent disconnect
in the engineering labour market. While ITEs continue to face challenges in securing Canadian engineering work
experience, engineering employers are struggling to meet their hiring needs.
OSPE's research revealed several critical misalignments between the recruitment processes of employers and the job
search practices of ITEs. The next step is to leverage these findings to develop more effective strategies for integrating
ITEs into the Canadian engineering labour market - a move that will benefit both ITEs and Ontario companies that
need experienced engineers.
The full report and an executive summary are available now at www.ospe.on.ca/ITE. OSPE invites you to review
the report and share your feedback via our LinkedIn Group, on Twitter or send an email to jcoens@ospe.on.ca.
