The University of Windsor's Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation and
Entrepreneurship Practice and Innovation Centre (EPICentre) were constructed to offer an
environment for collaborative work, multi-disciplinary learning and access to mentors while
nurturing the spirit for organizational innovation and entrepreneurship.

products," he says. "The product they're building is something that's going to be used
by a person, so they need to be able to understand how people are going to interact
with that product and how the customer is going to use that product."
In addition to core competencies in applied finance, administration, market
research, engineering design and product management, students in UWindsor's
MEM program can focus their degree in manufacturing strategy; operations
management; project management; supply chain management; or entrepreneurship
and innovation.
Dr. Mehrdad Saif, P.Eng., the university's Dean of Engineering, said many of the
employers in Windsor's manufacturing-heavy economy are subsidizing tuition for
their employees.
"These days, it's not enough to be specialized only in one area," Saif said. "There
are many policy issues and legal aspects of the business side of engineering that they
need to be cognizant of."
Despite already being involved in management at HRYCAY Consulting Engineering
Inc., Justine Arbor is hoping the MEM program not only catapults her further ahead
in her career path but also helps her company thrive in a competitive environment.
"The MEM program has helped me with the management of my team and in
navigating my organization as a whole," said Arbor, who is on track to graduate
this summer. "Principles of innovative design have assisted me in developing more
efficient solutions to project issues, while financial management principles have been
useful in establishing budgets and project metrics."
Arbor said the program has also allowed her to connect with other engineering
professionals who she otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet.
Professionals who take part in the program must have a minimum of two years of
work experience in an engineering related field and an undergraduate degree in
engineering or a related discipline. Arbor's classmates have an average of seven years
of work experience under their belts.
