ADVOCACY IN ACTION
AUGUST
Member of Parliament Ali Ehsassi (Willowdale) visits
OSPE to learn about ongoing advocacy work and how OSPE
is engaging engineering students.
OSPE attends meeting with Turkey delegation including
the Prime Minister, ambassadors, and councillors to
discuss infrastructure and procurement in Ontario, and
a mechanism for Turkish Nationals to obtain engineering
credentials in Ontario.
OCTOBER
OSPE meets with PEO's Enforcement and Regulatory
Compliance Unit to discuss the potential involvement
of non-engineers conducting engineering work, with
the purpose of clearly identifying PEO's role within the
Professional Engineers Act.
OSPE participates in the Ontario Chamber of Commerce's
Workforce Development Council as a key representative
of the STEM sector in the development of recommendations
regarding the future labour force in Ontario.
This event also provided the engineering community with the
opportunity to hear from politicians running for office, who
talked about their party's platforms and their commitments to
Canadians.
Representatives from all five major parties were invited to
attend. The following individuals running for office attended
the event.

* David Micalef, P.Eng. (People's Party - Mississauga Centre)
* Dan Turcotte (Green Party - Don Valley East)
OSPE recommendations implemented in Government
of Ontario's plans regarding green and stormwater
infrastructure funding to help communities with
populations lower than 100,000 rehabilitate water systems.
NOVEMBER
OSPE hosts The EDI Imperative: Changing the Profile of
STEAM in Canada with more than 700 attendees in Ottawa,
Ontario.
OSPE hosts Federal Election Roundtable and releases
OSPE's Federal Strategy
On October 9, 2019, OSPE hosted its Federal Election
Roundtable, where our Advocacy Task Forces and
Committees showcased a comprehensive National Strategy
that includes recommendations regarding energy, climate
change and the environment, innovative technology,
infrastructure, and ways to increase the number of
underrepresented groups in STEM.

P.Eng., Emily Thorn Corthay, P.Eng, and Emmanuel Corthay, P.Eng.
release OSPE's National Strategy for the 2019 Canadian Federal
Election.

OSPE meets with provincial political staffers to discuss
2020 priorities and begins developing an Ontario Provincial
Strategy with recommendations for OSPE's Lobby Day &
MPP Reception in April 2020.
