" We were honoured to participate in OSPE's Virtual
Engineering Employment Event in November 2020.
The provided platform allowed for a unique
opportunity to meet 'face-to-face' in a virtual
environment and supported the pre-screen process
and later a formal interview of selected applicants.
Candidates were well prepared and highly skilled,
making this an excellent tool for small and larger
organizations looking to hire engineers. We can't
wait to participate in the next event! "

In the coming months, OSPE is scheduled to host another
seven VE3s to be held from June to December 2021. We hope
to continue this trend of connecting high quality engineering
candidates to employers in a way that is safe and accessible. If

in further communicating their expertise and personality, thus
increasing their chances of making a positive-and memorable-
first impression. The selected candidates are then invited to a
15-minute virtual interview with their potential employer on the
event date.
In 2020 OSPE hosted two such aptly named " Virtual
Engineering Employment Events (VE3s), " which each proved
to be tremendously successful. Employers from government,
manufacturing, consulting and more have returned repeatedly
to participate in the program. " We will definitely participate
in another OSPE hiring event, " said Christine Flint, HR
Administrator at Stubbe's Precast. " We were very pleased
with the outcome and the interview timelines provided, would
recommend! "
While the VE3s are designed to screen candidates more
rigorously, utilizing a virtual platform also alleviates some
barriers to fair and equitable access of events such as these.
They provide a space for participants to meet " face-to-face "
in a safe manner, and without the cost of travel or-as of June
2021-admission. In the last year alone, 154 job seekers from
equity seeking groups took part in the VE3s, of which 88% were
internationally trained. Thanks to the aforementioned prescreening,
a total of 63% of the participating candidates were
invited for a virtual interview.
" This VE3 helped me build my confidence because out of
four applications that I submitted, I could get three interviews,
which did not happen in my regular job searching, " said Negin
Ziayee Bideh. " It was really helpful for me to hear the feedback
" Compared to a traditional career fair, I felt the
event was much more strategic, pairing us
with appropriate candidates through the video
screening system. I believe this helped us save time
and allowed us to focus our energy. Thank you for
