This report is an excellent example of how engineers are
leading discussions on important and current issues. Engineers
have a scientific understanding of the world in which we live,
meaning they appreciate how people and systems interact over
the total lifespan of projects. As such, engineers have an ability
to simplify intricate problems and are skilled developers of
evidence-based decisions and scenario analyses. In a time when
policymakers, private actors, civil liberties organizations, and
the public are grappling with the potential and consequences of
rapidly advancing technologies, engineers are ready to take the
lead and ensure a careful balance between innovation and public
safety.
