NEWS & EVENTS A POTENTIAL " ON-GRID " ZERO EMISSION ENERGY SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE A POTENTIAL " OFF-GRID " ZERO EMISSION ENERGY SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE SMR - Small Modular Reactor RNG - Renewable Natural Gas H2 - Hydrogen ASHP - Air Source Heat Pump GSHP - Ground Source Heat Pump HV / LV - High / Low Voltage Summary Nuclear energy is an essential zero emission energy option if we want to achieve net zero at an affordable cost by 2050. SMR technology aligns well with the public's values of a safe, affordable, clean and sustainable energy system. Passively safe SMRs can also be distributed closer to energy users to affordably decarbonize our heating requirements and to improve resiliency for more frequent severe weather events that are expected in the future. SMRs can be deployed rapidly as soon as mass production facilities are completed. SMRs can decarbonize the electricity, transportation and heating sectors by 2050 provided a major energy transition program is launched by 2030. 32 THE VOICE December 2021
