Ontario's 2017 fair hydro Plan

* Rates are coming down by 25% in 2017
* Subsidies will be paid from taxes not rates

* Rate reduction is being financed in a deferral account
at Ontario Power Generation along with the compound
interest charges

* If future costs do not come down, the deferral account
charges will show up at a later date as large increases in rates
* A second stranded debt charge, but potentially much larger
future of OsPe's eTf
1. Advocate for an interruptible retail electricity market so
Ontario consumers can access cheap surplus clean electricity
from Ontario, and also from adjoining jurisdictions.
2. Advocate for cost-effective deployment of cap-and-trade
revenues (Greenhouse Gas Reduction Account) - based on
the cost per tonne of CO2 to reduce emissions.
3. Advocate for a review of the 2017 Fair Hydro Plan and its
deferral account after the next provincial election.

Open forum
Olga Dragas from The Personal Insurance company presents
Saeideh Salimpour with a $2,500 scholarship award for outstanding
academic achievement, community leadership and commitment to the
engineering profession. The Personal Insurance awards eight OSPE
student members with this scholarship this year.
Outgoing OSPE President and Chair Michael Monette, P.Eng., and
incoming President and Chair Jonathan Hack, P.Eng., moderate an
Open Forum about the strategic direction of the Society. For more
