His many clients included the late princess Diana, for whom he began designing during her engagement to Prince Charles. Campbell designed a silk faconne dress and jacket she wore leaving on her honeymoon and a red and green outfit she wore during her first tour to Wales in 1981. Campbell’s designs for Diana, including a 1983 black evening dress, are featured in the Diana, Fashion and Style exhibition at Kensington Palace. Donald Campbell, Fashion ’52, in a photo taken in Prague by Helen Hutko, also a Ryerson fashion graduate and instructor. 50s Stan Hiraki, Electronic Technology ’50 – writes: “After graduating from the two-year electronic technology program in one year, I worked at Philips Electronics. In 1961, I married Marjorie Wani who put me through electrical engineering at U of T. After graduation I received my professional engineer’s licence and worked at Motorola. In 1968, I joined the faculty at Seneca College. I established the Seneca student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, of which I am a life member. I retired in 1987. My son, Lester, is an instructor with The Chang School at Ryerson. He is married to Sylvie Coleno, Computer Science ’94.” Stan Hiraki, Electronic Technology ’50, with wife Marjorie Wani at the 2009 Alumni Weekend barbecue at Ryerson. Douglas Lavery, Electrical and Computer Engineering ’58 – since retirement, has managed a small business called Computing for Seniors by a Senior. Glen Pearce, Instrument Technology ’58 – writes: “I retired in 1983 to Shabomeka Lake at the southeast corner of Bon Echo Provincial Park in Ontario. I began Shabomeka Legpower Pathfinders, a one-person philanthropic organization to build and maintain a 65-kilometre network of beautifully scenic paths for non-motorized use. The network winds its way through a wide variety of habitats in the forest heartland surrounding Shabomeka Lake in the Madawaska Highlands of the Land O’ Lakes region of eastern Ontario. I enjoy hiking and mountain biking in the spring, summer and fall, and ski touring in the winter.” Brian Purdy, Radio and Television Arts (RTA) ’58 – is an award-winning producer-director who has worked for CBC, CTV, two advertising agencies and his own business in broadcast and corporate communications. He recently won 11 awards for a fundraising DVD created for a hospital in Grimsby. Shirley (Weinper) Gilbert, Journalism ’58 – is looking to reconnect with classmates. I worked at Northern Electric, Doctors Hospital, Peel Memorial Hospital, Maple Lodge Farms and Home Depot. I have two children, both married and one granddaughter, with another grandchild due soon.”
