President’s meSSAGe Alumni, friends and community members are invited to campus for skating at the MAC, Rams games and to see the current exhibition at the Ryerson Image Centre. Ryerson University – yours forever BY SHELDON LEVY A university is defined by ownership – and it’s all about the people. Every year we are proud to welcome new students to Ryerson, and they own the experience for a lifetime. For alumni, the special events of fall 2012 struck a particular chord. Maybe you went to hockey games or performances at the old Maple Leaf Gardens, and now it’s part of your Ryerson home as the Mattamy Athletic Centre. You might remember the old brewery that has been transformed into the Image Arts Building and Ryerson Image Centre. You probably browsed at Sam the Record Man on Yonge Street, where the Student Learning Centre is beginning to take shape. These are great developments, but they are only meaningful if you see them as yours. We want to understand from your feedback that we have contributed, not only to your past university experience, but to your life today. So I want to thank you for the overwhelming message of ownership I heard at Alumni Weekend – it’s growing by leaps and bounds. Bring your family to a Rams game. Make a date to skate at the MAC. Invite friends to the exhibition at the Ryerson Image Centre. Have a coffee on campus. Share your stories with Alumni Relations. Own the dynamic Ryerson experience – it is yours forever. Last fall we paid tribute to remarkable colleagues who have inspired Ryerson ownership in the role of chancellor. In October we honoured G. Raymond Chang for his past six years serving our university, and especially our students, with warm-hearted interest, generosity and distinction, and recognized that his wife Donette and he will always be cherished members of the Ryerson family. In the continuing tradition of exceptional leaders, we were also delighted to welcome Lawrence Bloomberg as our new chancellor. I invite you to read the profile on page 8.
