One example is Anne Golden, president and CEO of the Conference Board of Canada. Meet a few of the other visiting scholars at Ryerson. ConstanCe L. sugiyama, a leading corporate lawyer and former deputy chair and partner of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, is a distinguished visiting scholar in the Ryerson Law Research Centre for a two-year term. businessman and philanthropist lawrence bloomberg is ryerson’s new chancellor. constance l. sugiyama Welcoming Chancellor Bloomberg Lawrence Bloomberg, an accomplished Canadian business leader and distinguished philanthropist, is the new chancellor of Ryerson University. The chancellor, who is the ceremonial head of the university, is appointed for a three-year term. In addition to acting as an ambassador for Ryerson on the local, national and international levels, the chancellor also presides at all convocations and confers university degrees. Bloomberg began his term Oct. 19, 2012 and is Ryerson’s fourth chancellor, succeeding G. Raymond Chang. “Like so many others, I have been watching with interest Ryerson’s growth as a university and its impressive expansion in the heart of the city,” Bloomberg said. “I have a strong affinity for the culture of innovation at Ryerson and the kind of education it offers.” Bloomberg is chair of the board of directors of BloombergSen Inc., an investment counselling firm. He is a director of the National Bank of Canada and is currently an advisor to National Bank Financial. In 1979, Bloomberg founded First Marathon Inc., which became one of Canada’s leading investment dealers. First Marathon was purchased in 1999 by the National Bank. A member of the Order of Canada and recipient of the Order of Ontario, Bloomberg has a long and distinguished record of community service. Among his many positions, he is past chairman of Mount Sinai Hospital, former director of the Toronto Region Research Alliance, and past director of the Royal Ontario Museum and the Toronto International Film Festival. Bloomberg is a founder and director of MaRS, a Toronto incubator where science, technology and social entrepreneurs can advance their business ideas. DaviD tiCoLL, a distinguished visiting scholar at The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, is one of Canada’s Canada’s leading authorities on technology and business innovation. Founder and CEO of Digital 4Sight, a Toronto-based international research firm and think-tank, Ticoll authored david ticoll several best selling business books, including Digital Capital: Harnessing the Power of Business Webs (with Don Tapscott and Alex Lowy) and The Naked Corporation: How the Age of Transparency will Revolutionize Business (with Tapscott). “I am delighted to join one of Canada’s leading post-secondary education innovators,” says Ticoll. “The opportunities of digitally enabled education are accelerating. I look forward to working with colleagues at The Chang School and Ryerson University on how this expanding set of developments will shape our future.” Wayne CLark, a pre-eminent Canadian women's wear designer, joined the School of Fashion as the first distinguished designer in residence for a one-year term. “Clark’s influence in the Canadian fashion industry has been immeasurable.
