ALUMNI DIARY
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Building a network of retail grads
When Sara Peshnak, TRSM ’13, was completing her retail management degree, she focused more on academics than extracurricular activities—and she feels she missed out. But since graduating in 2013, she has re-engaged with Ryerson in a big way.
For the last six years, Peshnak has volunteered on the board of directors of the Ryerson Retail Alumni Association. For the last four years, she has been head of the association and has helped organize events such as this year’s Retail Gala at the Arta Gallery in the Distillery District, which attracted about 140 people who celebrated the School of Retail Management’s 20th anniversary.
For Peshnak, it’s a privilege to give back to the institution that launched her onto a rewarding career path at Indigo, where she is a planning manager who oversees eight tabletop and wellness categories across more than 200 locations.
“Staying connected means a lot to me,” says Peshnak, who received a Ryerson G. Raymond Chang 2018 Outstanding Volunteer Award. “It’s important for graduates to know that once they graduate, they have a career support network.”
