I HAVE TO CONFESS, I loved college. On my
first day, I woke up at six in the morning
for my 8 a.m. class. I got there earlier than
expected and was surprised to see the
amount of students who were already at
school. Like any first-year student in the
hallway, I was nervous but excited to start
a new journey. I remember overhearing
snippets of students conversing in languages I knew and ones I did not. Everywhere
I looked, I saw people of different cultures.
That is when I realized everyone around
me came from different walks of life and
how Seneca embraced and welcomed
diversity within their community. Having
parents that migrated to Canada more than
30 years ago, I was taught the importance
of culture, which allowed me to open up
to the Seneca community and the different
opportunities it offered. It was in those
halls that I realized I could make the most
of my college experience and maybe even
consider it as a second home.
That is the great thing about Seneca:
It exposes students to embracing diversity.
Seneca is like no other college I have
witnessed and heard stories about. If
I had a full day of classes and activities,
I knew I could get my studies done
in between classes within the available
lounge areas and library spaces. Seneca

embraced religion and created a multi-faith
space for students of any faiths to pray
and come together, which I could rely on
when it was time to pray. All the necessary
resources for me to find a home were found
within Seneca.
I also had the pleasure to experience
and learn many things from the friends and
colleagues I met at Seneca. With a passion
for business, I looked for ways to grow
within my career path and seized opportunities to play an active role on campus.
I involved myself in school activities, clubs
and work. The Seneca Student Federation
had International Week, which highlighted
the different cultures students came from.
The most important part of my Seneca
experience was working with Seneca
Business. Working with amazing colleagues
and leaders really helped carve a pathway
for my career by drawing out my strengths.
I had the opportunity to meet many people
who came from different countries, like
Colombia and Uganda, and I had never met
anyone from those countries before.
Seneca has prepared me to be more
open and appreciative of the different
talents and strengths people have within
my workplace today. The best part of
Seneca is that it always goes the extra mile
to welcome its students from day one.
