experiences. " There were a lot of other people in similar
circumstances, studying to get an education and make
their lives better. I often thought, if they can do it, I can
do it too. "
In knowing that she was not alone, Ms. Levy persevered
for herself and her children. " Even though I was busy, my
kids would tell me that they were so proud. I wanted them
to see that they too can accomplish their goals. "
Today, she considers learning to be a lifelong
WHEN MARIA LEVY enrolled part-time at Seneca in 2016, she
took on a major challenge to complete her studies while
working full-time and raising three elementary-aged children
as a single mom.
It certainly wasn't easy and there was a lot to juggle.
" There were days where I could barely keep my eyes
open. I was exhausted, " she said. But Ms. Levy persevered
and, studying one course at a time, she was able to
achieve a graduate certificate in Supply Chain
Management - Global Logistics.
Through the certificate program, she gained valuable
experience that relates directly to her current role as a
parts logistics analyst at Mercedes-Benz Canada. She
credits her employer for investing in her success with
the company by supporting her professional development
and education.
Graduating from Seneca with honours in 2020 is one
of Ms. Levy's proudest accomplishments and it has helped
boost her career. " Without going back to school, I don't
think I could have achieved this level of fulfillment. Many
analysts have a bachelor's degree, I feel lucky to be where
experience that doesn't stop at graduation. Working in
a field that is ever-changing and constantly evolving,
she often browses Seneca's programs for the next steps
in her education experience and to stay updated with
industry knowledge.
Ms. Levy was in her late 30s when she achieved her
certificate and has a message to others considering a
return to school later in life: " Be patient with yourself.
It doesn't matter how old you are or what phase of life
you are in, you'll know when the time is right for you. It's
never too late. "
I often thought,
if they can do it, I
can do it too.
