Mark Seenarine got his start in Police Foundations
the 'red phone' to ring, " he said with a laugh. " Proactive
training and establishing relationships in advance are
essential to preventing and preparing for emergency
situations and working as a team. "
Although he leads by connecting with and motivating
his team, Mr. Seenarine says that he wasn't always
so outgoing. He credits his time at Seneca in the Police
Foundations program for helping him to come out of
his shell. " From fellow students to staff, I met a lot of
good people at Seneca. Over time, I became less shy, "
he said. " Many of us even worked together after graduating
in 1998 and have remained friends. "
It was one of his professors and mentors, Pete
WHEN THE CLOCK STRIKES 6:23 a.m. - inspired by Michael
Jordan's number - Mark Seenarine starts each day
with a vision. Whether it's a workday or weekend, he's
ready to make it count.
Mr. Seenarine's alarm isn't the only part of his day
inspired by sports. As Manager, Corporate Security &
Loss Prevention at Canadian Tire Corporation, he
understands the importance of individual and team
training, particularly in security. His approach to leadership,
people management and teamwork is rooted
in core principles he developed playing basketball
in his youth.
" It's about strengthening relationships and effective
communication, building a community and helping others.
It also comes down to training, not just during the
onboarding process, but ongoing development, " he said.
In his role, he provides support to more than 1,800
stores with Canadian Tire Retail, Mark's, Sport Chek,
Canadian Tire Gas Stations, Party City, Canadian Tire
Bank and other owned brands. Mr. Seenarine oversees
four Security Specialists/Investigators and numerous
security contractors across various locations.
He keeps a fun red telephone at his desk as a
reminder to expect the unexpected. " You never want
Pallister, who helped guide Mr. Seenarine to his career
in security. " At that time, Pete let my class know that
Woodbine Racetrack was hiring security guards. He
really started it all for me. Many of us applied and were
hired, " he said.
" I never looked back. I grew my career at Woodbine
for 17 years and was promoted to Security Manager in
my last five years there. I also owned a security business
for a time, worked as Director of FirstService Residential
(the largest property management company in
North America), and then started at Canadian Tire a
couple of years ago, " he said.
" Seneca was the right postsecondary institution
to help me prepare for my future. I learned from
knowledgeable professors with industry experience.
Their hands-on and practical approach gave me a head
start by helping me to graduate career-ready with an
established path. "
It's about
strengthening

community and
helping others.
