PREMIER'S AWARDS
NOMINEES
Seneca has a wealth
of experienced
and accomplished
alumni. Six have
been nominated
this year for the
Premier's Awards for
college graduates.
Arnon Melo
(Business)
Originally from Brazil, Arnon
Melo is the founder of MELLOHAWK
Logistics, a freight
forwarding company based
in Mississauga. Over the
last 20 years, he has built
MELLOHAWK into a leader
in supply chain logistics,
with an office also in Miami,
Florida, and a network of 65
global shipping partners.
Mr. Melo believes diversity
is key to success - nearly
all his employees are immigrants.
MELLOHAWK has
won awards from Access
Employment, Mississauga
Board of Trade and the
CGLCC Canadian Gay
and Lesbian Chamber of
Commerce. In December
2021, Mr. Melo was awarded
Brazil's Order of Rio Branco
medal for helping Brazilians
stranded in Canada during
the COVID-19 pandemic. In
August 2022, he won Canadian
Immigrant's Top 25
Canadian Immigrant Award.
Shernett Williams
(Community Services)
Sgt. Shernett Williams of
the Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) has dedicated her
career to teaching critical
new skills in policing and
mentoring fellow officers.
Committed to diversity
in policing, Ms. Williams
brings her passion for
equity and inclusion to her
work recruiting uniformed
officers. She took on
OPP's first-ever diversity
co-ordination role as acting
staff sergeant and has
helped revamp the force's
recruitment process to
ensure diverse candidates
are not overlooked. Ms.
Williams also co-chairs
the OPP Highway Safety
Division Inclusion Council
and has been awarded for
her efforts to build bridges
between law enforcement
and racialized communities.
Natalya Amres
(Creative Arts and Design)
Natalya Amres is the
multidisciplinary artist
behind the sustainable
fashion company Remixed
by Tal. She is sought after
by brands and individuals
to reimagine design by
transforming old items into
cutting-edge streetwear.
Ms. Amres has collaborated
with Kappa, Nike, Adidas
and Foot Locker. Her
environmentally-friendly
designs were worn by
Atlanta-based hip-hop
group Migos while on tour
with Drake. Ms. Amres was
among a group of female
creators and business
leaders celebrated by Nike
at 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
In 2022, Hershey Canada
featured her on a wrapper
of its milk chocolate bar in
celebration of International
Women's Day.
Taylor Chung
(Health Sciences)
Taylor Chung is Lead
Optician and Marketing
Manager for Kodak Lens
Vision Centres. As co-founder,
he helped open its first
North American vision centre
in 2014 and has grown the
business to seven locations,
serving more than 57,000
patients across Toronto and
the Greater Toronto Area. Mr.
Chung is also Executive
Administrator of the eyeTrust
Network, a not-for-profit
buying group that provides
independent eye care businesses
access to discounts,
education and networking
opportunities. He is passionate
about giving back and
has done a medical mission
to Honduras and volunteered
with Homeless Connect
to provide Toronto's most
vulnerable residents with access
to free eye care services.
Emma Lopez Hechem
(Recent Graduate)
Emma López Hechem is
the Creative Director and
partner at AVA Animation
& Visual Arts, a design
studio specializing in
large-scale digital art and
animation. Together with
her partner, Pedro Narvaez,
she pioneered the field of
architectural projection
mapping for live events.
Her installations have been
shown in more than a
dozen countries and have
won awards such as the
Amsterdam Light Festival
International Mapping
Competition. During the
pandemic, she partnered
with the City of Toronto to
create public art initiatives
that provided paid work for
local artists. She has also
led workshops to teach
projection mapping.
Julie Beverstein
(Technology)
Julie Beverstein is Jazz
Aviation's first female chief
pilot to be a part of the
flight operations management
team. In her role as
head of the airline's line
operations in Toronto, she
oversees 550 pilots and
manages recruitment and
labour issues. As a flight
instructor, captain and
now airline leader, Ms.
Beverstein has dedicated
her career to expanding
opportunities for new
pilots, especially women,
to succeed in aviation.
She was Porter's first pilot
recruitment ambassador,
where she established
relationships with college
aviation training programs
across Canada and created
a mentorship program to
pair new graduates with
experienced pilots.
