Couple continues
to support Seneca
students
IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM,
Anthony Van Odyk and his wife,
Kathleen Mahoney, are staunch
advocates for the success of
Seneca students.
For 20 years, Mr. Van Odyk
was a professor of Seneca's Fire
Protection Engineering Technology
(FPT) program.
When Mr. Van Odyk retired as
Industry Coordinator late 2014,
he and Ms. Mahoney decided to
continue to make a positive difference
for Seneca students
through a gift in their wills.
Combined, their donations
and industry awards are supporting
Seneca students for
years to come.
The Adrian Van Odyk
Memorial Award, named in
honour of Mr. Van Odyk's late
brother, is available to students
enrolled in the Fire Protection
Engineering Technology or
38 RED 2022
Technician programs. In 2020,
Ms. Mahoney, who has more
than 30 years of experience
working in the hospitality sector,
created the K. Mahoney Travel/
Hospitality Award for second
year students in the School of
Hospitality & Tourism.
The philanthropic pair made
their legacy gift plans to support
their awards for years to
come, ensuring their collective
commitment to student success
at Seneca lives on.
" We want to give something
back to the community and
encourage the future of our
respective industries, " said Mr.
Van Odyk. " My students were
kind-of 'like my kids'. I wanted
to give them the best advice I
could and guide them as they
entered the industry. "
As a result of their joint
legacy gifts, Mr. Van Odyk and
Ms. Mahoney have joined the
Au Large Legacy Society, which
celebrates generous individuals
who have made provisions in
their estate plans to provide a
gift to support Seneca students
and programs.
The duo recommends others
looking to give back, join the Au
Large Legacy Society, too.
" If you want to make a difference
in your community, help a
student! " said Mr. Van Odyk.
We want to give something
back to the community and
encourage the future of our
respective industries
