So when she and her husband started to plan their dream home for their family of five, they selected a design with a spacious and functional kitchen. The front foyer leads to the heart of the house, an open-concept kitchen and dining room that on occasion does double duty as a family or party room. Doors off the kitchen open to the pool area and patio where the family enjoys barbecuing meals whenever they can. The living room is located at the back of the home and overlooks the patio. A wide staircase at the front entrance leads up to the second floor bedrooms or down to the lower level family living space. But the kitchen is the nerve centre of this home custom built by Zulich. Like luxurious but functional pieces of furniture, cherrywood cabinetry sets the tone for the kitchen’s decor and provides ample storage. It complements stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and porcelain flooring. The heart The of the Ceramic or porcelain tile costs more, but it is a practical choice for kitchens because it will last for the lifetime of the home and will continue looking beautiful with very little care. The textured natural stone backsplash adds character while protecting walls from damage caused by water or grease spatters over the sink and stove. A large island accommodates five bar stools for casual family meals. Guests often gather around the island, which has lots of storage space, as well as a wine rack, while their hosts prepare snacks. Cabinetry was designed by Canadiana Cabinets and custommade in Markstay. The cabinets facing the dining room have glass windows and are used to display the owners’ pretty things. The formal dining area’s hardwood floor defines the room. The owners selected lighting fixtures with frosted glass and brushed nickel that fit in perfectly in this contemporary classic kitchen/dining room.
