CINÉFEST, Sudbury’s International Film Festival, will take place from Sept. 13 to 21. The opening gala film will be Passchendaele (Sept. 14), a film that stars Canadian actor/director Paul Gross. Passchendaele is about love between a soldier and a nurse during the First World War. Gross, who filmed Men With Brooms in Sudbury several years ago, is expected to attend the screening. More information about the festival is available at 688-1234. calendar of events fall 2008 Sudbury SILVERCITY will present opera live from the Metropolitian Opera House in New York City this fall. The first presentation is Salome with Karia Mattila in the title role of the opera written by Richard Strauss, Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 pm. The first SILVER BIRCH QUARTET CONCERT of the season will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, St. at St. Peter’s United Church at 8 pm. The concert will feature Penderecki String Quartet, artists-in-residence at Wilfrid Laurier University, in a thrilling evening of music by Mendelssohn and Gliere. Single tickets are $20. There are five concerts in the series. Subscriptions to all five concerts are $70. They are available at the door the night of the first two concerts.
