A Year of Deepened Connections
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As we start a new year, I want to express
my deep gratitude to DFI members and
our industry partners for your ongoing
support of DFI during a rough and
uncertain year.
The year was so much better and
brighter than we ever anticipated, in no
small part thanks to the passion and
perseverance of the DFI community.
Together, we never fell short on
promoting the advancement of the deep
founda t i ons i ndus t ry through
networking, education, communication
and collaboration.
Here are some of our accomplishments
from 2021:
Our innovative spirit was on full
display at SuperPile '21 in Philadelphia
and at S3: Slopes, Slides and Stabilization
in San Francisco. We rubbed
shoulders and tagged elbows in Vegas
for DFI46, were all in at IFCEE, and
hosted dozens of webinars and seminars,
including ITS Money, the Shotcrete
Short Course and the DFI-COPRI
New York City Ports and Marine
Engineering Seminar.
In addition to the success of these
domestic events, we hosted major international
conferences online, including
Deep Mixing 2021, the DFI Middle
East Conference and the DFI-India
2021 10th Anniversary Conference.
A highlight of the year was the
launch of our brand-new website and
data management system. We modernized
and updated all DFI websites to
have new navigation options such as in
the footer of webpages, and expanded
search capabilities, all intended to
bring important information closer to
your fingertips.
Another highlight was the launch of
DFI's podcast channel, Broadcasting
Common Ground, and its inaugural
series, Interview With a Survivor.
and informative articles by members
and industry leaders. What's more, we
published two volumes of the DFI
Journal, our internat ional peerThe
year was so much better and brighter than we ever
anticipated, in no small part thanks to the passion and
perseverance of the DFI Community.
Our publications library increased
in 2021 with the release of new
manuals by DFI's technical committees,
including Grouting Summary of Main
Standards and Guidelines on Grouting
Available in North America and Europe,
Data Management Guide Specification,
Guidelines for Selecting Cutoff Wall Systems
and Structural Slurry (Diaphragm) Walls
as well as the publication of several
research reports for projects funded by
DFI's Committee Project Fund.
Our flagship publication - Deep
Foundations - was back in print following
a hiatus during COVID-19, with
six issues packed with industry news
reviewed publication featuring current
industry research.
As the journal celebrates its 15th
anniversary, we also raise a glass to
cheer members of the deep foundations
community who donated more than
$200,000 to the DFI Educational Trust.
Such generosity lets us continue to
provide much needed scholarships to
students in the fields of studies related
to the deep foundations industry.
As we look forward to even more
good things to come in 2022, I look
forward to working together and
finding common ground with you - the
DFI Community. Happy New Year!
