Rock excavation through the pedestrian and service tunnels
To finish out this project, the excavation contractor
continues to do removals of the earth retention system.
Sequencing with the concrete crews finishing up the tunnel
work, all soldier piles and lagging will be removed as the grade
is brought up. During the demolition of the Colonial building
and then the construction of the Proton building, a portion of
the earth retention from the tunnel project will be utilized to
resist sliding forces upon the tunnel. The adjacent Proton
project will be built within 5 ft (1.5 m) of the new tunnels and
extend up to 20 ft (6 m) below the bottom of tunnel elevation,
pending final design. Final construction on the Proton building
is expected to conclude in the next 2-3 years.
Boldt Construction is the general contractor on the 1st Ave
Tunnel project, with the engineering of the earth retention
systems and supports designed by Chad Underwood of
Engineering Partners International. Weis Builders is the
general contractor of the RMC Loading Dock, and the
engineering design was done by Veit.
Mayo Clinic is continuously adapting and improving its
campus for a more sustainable and inclusive environment. Veit
is honored to partner with them in meeting its goals to provide
supplemental accessibility for the community of Rochester.
Nathan Iverson is the vice president - foundations, for Veit & Company. He has
a background in professional engineering and more than 20 years of industry
experience. In his current role, he oversees the operations, project
management and engineering divisions of the foundation group. He attended
the University of Minnesota for undergraduate and graduate school, where
he studied civil and geotechnical engineering.
Allie Brady is a project manager/estimator - foundations, for Veit &
Company. With more than 7 years of industry experience, she manages bid
submittals and contract management from start to finish including
scheduling, cost containment, monitoring progress, compliance and client
contact. She attended North Dakota State University where she received a
bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
