the kind of supportive professionalism
that is a cornerstone of his life, Brosi's
USACE colleague Lisa Perks remarks,
" Brook has been great to work with. As
an expert in dam safety, remediation
and construction, he is always willing
to share his knowledge and provide
technical advice. He has been a great
mentor. He motivates others to expand
their skill sets. He always finds ways to
make the next project better. "
As to choosing to pursue his career in
the USACE, his early exposure to
working with the Corps when he first
started out in the industry laid the
foundation for his pursuing a position
with the agency. In regard to his
motivation, he notes, " There are many
aspects of the USACE's mission that are
important to the nation. USACE's civil
works mission impacts almost every
American. " The impacts, he points out,
include recreation at lakes overseen by
the Corps, the generation of hydropower,
and flood risk reduction provided by
dams and levees, as well as transport of
goods by barges on national waterways.

A Perfect DFI Fit
Brosi's interest in slurry wall projects
led him to consider becoming involved
in DFI, as the organization seemed to be
the only one that focused on that kind of
work. DFI's $55 government employee
dues rate didn't hurt either as, being a
federal employee, he is responsible for
any costs associated with organizational membership. He feels that " the
major value of my involvement in DFI is
learning about trends and advances in
deep foundations, and my work in
technical committees. It was exciting for
me to meet some of the giants in cutoff
wall construction, including George
Tamaro and the late Arturo Ressi. "
Brosi has co-presented at DFI
meetings and served on the Slurry Wall
Committee. He is currently a member of
the International Grouting Committee.
As is the case with many of the
professionals in the industry, he is
involved in related organizations. These
include the Association of Environ68 * DEEP FOUNDATIONS * MAR/APR 2021

mental and Engineering Geologists
(AEG), the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), and the U.S.
Society of Dams (USSD). He also has over
20 publications to his credit.

Scouting a Family Lifestyle
When it comes to recreational activities,
much of the family's free time is spent in
Scouting activities. His son is a Cub
Scout, with Brosi being the den leader.
His daughter is a Girl Scout and his wife,
a Girl Scout leader. Carrying on the proud
generational tradition of Scouting is a
family keystone, as is traveling. Brosi,
who spent his junior year of college in
England, enjoyed traveling throughout
Europe. He and his wife honeymooned
in Ireland. The travel bug continues as a
family affair that features RV trips to the
Rockies, Yellowstone and other locations. An appreciation and love of the
outdoors and the adventures it provides
is alive and well in the Brosi household.
