Augusto Lucarelli is a principal
engineer with Itasca Consulting Group
and supports the journal with a strong
background in numerical modeling of
geotechnical processes, shallow and deep
foundation design, soil improvement,
slope stability, mechanized excavation as
well as tunneling and deep excavation supports in urban areas.
Conrad Felice, Ph.D., P.E., PMP,
M.ASCE, managing principal at C.W.
Felice, joins us with more than 35 years of
project experience and corporate
leadership, program/project management
and technical engineering services on
bridge, tunnel, dam, pipeline, energy and
marine systems, and other infrastructure projects.
Editors Felice and Lucarelli will be working closely with
DFI's Tunneling and Underground Committee to uniquely
expand the journal's publication coverage within the realm of
underground construction.
As stewards of technical excellence, we understand the
pivotal role our editorial board plays in shaping the trajectory
of research and publications within our field and the
importance of maintaining the highest standards of
scholarship within the journal. Not only do we seek to
maintain a healthy balance between academic and industry
professionals among our editorial board members, but also
continue to geographically diversify the board. As such, we
welcome nominations of board members from South and
Central America, Asia and the Middle East that share the
same mission of elevating the caliber of research published in
our journal and make a meaningful impact in our field and

We are further grateful to the six underwriters who have
been an indispensable asset to the journal and have
supported the DFI publications for the past three years; and
continued their support in 2024.
We will be publishing a minimum of two issues this year,
with our first issue expected in late April. Volume 18, Issue 1,
will contain six papers and feature a variety of technical
studies, as well as the winners from the 2023 DFI Student
Paper Competition. As a reminder, all papers are available for
free to DFI members at the journal website, and papers will be
published ahead of print online as they become available.
These papers can be read on the " preprint tab " of the website
at www.dfi-journal.org.
