REGIONAL REPORT
DFI Europe
I have to report quite a few changes to
the board of DFI Europe over the recent
weeks. Long-standing colleagues are leaving, and new board
members are joining. Although it is always sad to see
companions go, it is positive for the board to welcome new
members who bring new visions and fresh ideas!
Let us first give a warm farewell to Sikko Doornbos, one of
the first European members dating back to the first DFI
Conference in Europe in Luxemburg, my fellow co-founder of
the European chapter, the first president of DFI Europe in
2005 and an active member on our board all these years!
Doornbos has worked in the industry for 40 years, first with
Fundex Piling Contractors, and for 27 years as managing
director of Terracon in the Netherlands. He is well respected
and known as a man of his word, which is one of the most
important qualities of a leader in my opinion. He has worked
hard to defend our industry, extending our network and
putting the right topics on the agenda of our meetings. Last
but certainly not least, he is enjoyable and a very pleasant
guy! Doornbos' opinion is that board members should be
active full time in the industry, and therefore wants to step
down, as he is gradually decreasing his activities. We regret
his decision, but we understand it of course, and we wish
Doornbos the best for the many years to come, sailing and
enjoying life with his family!

Maarten Profittlich, Adriaan van Seters and Jacolien Eijer-de Jong
Another member of our board, who is also a prominent
member of the Dutch geotechnical community, left in
December 2023: Adriaan van Seters, principal consultant
with Fugro. He chaired the European Committee for
Standardization CEN/TC250 Subcommittee Eurocode 7.
From 2003-2022, he also served as a member of the
Geotechnical Standards Committee in the Netherlands, and
for the last seven years as chair. In November 2023, the Royal
Netherlands Society of Engineers (KIVI) awarded van
Seters honorary membership in recognition of his many
