Deep Foundations for Landslides/Slope Stabilization
The committee is teaming again with
the joint ADSC-DFI Anchored Earth
Retention Committee to lead the next
S3: Slopes, Slides and Stabilization - a
2.5-day conference on the effective
application of deep foundations, ground
improvement and soil mixing for
stabilization of slopes and excavation
support. This year's event, being held
August 3-5 in San Francisco and
accessible online, is a continuation of
the virtual software discussion
presented last August. The 2021 event
will include keynote lectures, industry
and research presentations, and a new
software discussion topic.

participants have committed
to contribute to this year's
discussion session, with the
series generating an active
following while addressing
tricky topics on software use
for analysis of slopes. This year 's
conference program features sessions
on analysis and design, challenging
earth retention and excavation support
topics, deep mixing and ground
improvement, and a special session on
California-based case histories. Online
and in-person participation is
welcomed.
The committee is also
Chris Ramsey
developing a themed DFI
Journal issue on landslides and
slope stabilization, completing
a DFI-funded research project
on developing guidance for
factoring structural resistance for
landslide stabilization and excavation
support, and studying and summarizing
the differences in factors of safety
stipulated for stabilization. Please reach
