Sapir Engineering, Underwater
Anchor and Tecniwell were awarded
the 2020 Ben C. Gerwick Award for
Innovation in the Design and Construction
of Marine Foundations for their
Underwater Tie-back Anchoring

Acknowledgement
The study, development and construction
of the UWA drilling rig was carried
out with fundamental contributions of
Tecniwell, a leading manufacturer of jet
grouting, grouting and drilling equipment
who supplied all components for
executing the underwater anchors:
the software to execute anchors, UWA
drill rig, mixing unit/silo and jet grouting
pump.
Davide Serrau is an engineer and the technical
director and CEO of Sapir Engineering at the
Sapir Group, an important terminal company
in the Port of Ravenna. Since 2019, he has also
been the CEO of Under Water Anchor, the
company that developed the UWA system
described. Serrau has 20 years of experience in
service companies that specialize in transport
at ports and airports.
Cesare Melegari is a geologist and the vice
president of Under Water Anchor. He has over
30 years of experience in the manufacturing of
drilling and grouting equipment and in
developing new technologies.
Riccardo Arvedi is a project engineer in the
hydraulic and geotechnical sector of Sapir
Engineering that focuses on construction of
port works. He served as an expert in the
consolidation technique for the underwater
anchoring study.
