Professor Massimo
Grisolia (1943-2022), a
h i g h l y e s t e e m e d
hydraul ic engineer
died early this year.
Massimo Grisolia was a
professor of geotechnics at Sapienza
University in Rome, his alma mater. He
was an active member of DFI Europe
and served as an enthusiastic chair of
the DFI-EFFC International Conference
on Deep Foundations and Ground
Improvement in Rome in 2018. He also
worked with his colleague, Ignazio
Paolo Marzano, a geotechnics professor
at Sapienza University, to launch the
first European Student Chapter at the
university.
" Massimo was passionate about
teaching and his students, " says
Marzano. " He had an incredible ability
to convey complex and difficult to
understand concepts in a simple and
straightforward way. His students,
colleagues and the members of DFI
Europe are privileged to have met and
worked with Massimo. "
Massimo Grisolia held several
positions during his career, including
serving as an expert member of the
Superior Council of Public Works and of
the Scientific Technical Committee of
the Messina Strait Bridge.
He conducted studies and research
in the hydraulic, geotechnical and
environmental engineering with a
focus on ground improvement, infrastructures
in urban areas, geotechnical
characteristics of soils, behaviour of
superficial and deep foundations,
natural and artificial slopes stability,
hydraulic and geotechnical problems at
the land scales, landfills for municipal
solid wastes disposal and tunnel
underground construction. Massimo
Grisolia published over 100 scientific
papers presented at international conferences
and published in specialized
journals.
Justin Terry, P.E., has been promoted to
vice president of the geotechnical
contractor, Compaction Grouting
Services (CGS). He oversees all aspects
of business development, project
management, operations and safety.
Terry has served as senior project
manager at CGS since May 2013, during
which time he handled
sales and marketing,
project management
and business development.
He reported to
and was mentored by
the late Michael J. Miluski, P.E., founder
and co-owner of CGS. Terry has worked
with owners, builders, engineers and
designers to identify and deliver the
proper grouting applications and
ground modification solutions for each
project, while also providing hands-on
management through all phases from
the proposal stage to invoicing.
Terry has a B.S. in civil engineering
from Lehigh University.

Dominic Ivankovich has joined
GeoStabilization International as
chief executive officer
(CEO). Ivankovich succeeds
Colby Barrett,
who has led GeoStabilizat
ion since 2008.
Barrett will stay on as
vice chair of the board of directors.
Ivankovich joins GeoStabilization
after nearly 20 years with Danaher and
Fortive, including more than 10 years
leading large global businesses across
essential industries. With a degree in
chemical engineering from Montana
State University and an MBA from the
Kellogg School of Management at
Northwestern University, Ivankovich
has a rich track record of driving growth
acceleration and market share gains via
imp ro v e d c l i en t s a t i s f a c t i on ,
innovation, commercial execution, and
strategic acquisitions in core and new
markets. Additionally, his significant
depth in acquisition integration and
construction management will be
critical to GeoStabilization's future as it
continues to grow in current and new
mission critical applications.
GeoStabilization International® has
introduced its new Geohazard Asset
Management and Monitoring (GAMM)
group - the next evolution in protecting
against the dangers of geohazards
before they occur. The group further
expands the company's suite of end-toend
solutions by offering data collection,
interpretation, and analysis of natural
hazards in real-time to provide a better
understanding of risk and preparation
for geohazard potential.
The new GAMM group adds additional
geology and data analysis experts
to GeoStabilization.
Lex Ivey serves as director of data
science and analytics for GAMM. In this
role, Ivey leverages remote sensing and
geospat ial data science to give
GeoStabilization more proactive
capabilities in protecting people and
infrastructure from the dangers of
geohazards. Ivey has more than two
decades of experience pioneering,
innovating and elevating real-world
applications of geo-spatial technology
and decision support.
Ben Haugen serves as the director
of business development for GAMM. He
leads GeoStabilization's efforts to drive
customer awareness and project
