geofoundation industry including owners, engineers, contractors,
manufacturers and academics, and is committed to
cooperate with other existing grouting committees or groups.
The first initiative of the committee was to prepare general
guidelines and specific documents summarizing the different
international approaches and procedures existing in the
industry. This collaborative effort resulted in the creation of an
extremely useful tool entitled the " Summary of Main Standards
and Guidelines on Grouting Available in North America and
Europe. " The reference manual was published in November
2021 and is available for download at no charge on our
committee webpage. This publication summarizes the main
standards and guidelines; different approaches, methods and
tools used internationally; and standard of practice

Deep Foundations for Landslides and Slope Stabilization
DFI's Deep Foundations
for Landslides
and Slope
Stabilization Committee
is currently
involved in a number
of items. The
most exciting is assisting in planning
for S3: Slopes, Slides and Stabilization.
We have several committee members
active in the planning process, along
with members from other teaming
committees. The conference is taking
place July 26-28, 2022, in Nashville,

Subsurface Characterization for Deep Foundations
The Subsurface Characterization for
Deep Foundations (SCC) committee is
having an active year, partnering with
other organizations and engaging many
new members.
Two important industry partnerships
are our work with the ASCE
GeoInstitute (G-I) on its GeoTechTools
website, and our work supporting the
Federal Highway Administration
(FHWA) on its Advanced Geotechnical
Methods in Exploration (A-GaME)
initiative. G-I requested that DFI

committees propose additions
and improvements to GeoTechTools,
an online tool
targeted at owners that
provides resources to guide
decision making for construction
projects. The SCC
was the first committee to collaborate in
this way, proposing to enhance
GeoTechTools by adding subsurface
characterization information and
resources. Member Diane Moug, Ph.D.,
will be engaging her students at
Portland State University to
help with the project. Our
work on the A-GaME initiative
includes hosting and
updating a geophysics web
tool that serves as a resource
for owners and engineers

We are also hosting multiorganization
users groups open to all for
education and collaboration on cone
penetration testing (CPT), measurement
while drilling (MWD) and geophysics.
Tennessee. We are excited to welcome
everyone back to the Music City! The
technical program will feature a variety
of compelling presentations, including
some with a local and regional focus.
The seminar features our signature
software problem presentation with a
panel discussion (see page 35).
We are working jointly with the
Anchored Earth Retention Committee
to complete a deliverable for the
Committee Project Fund (CPF). We have
received a draft submittal for Developing
Guidance for Factoring Structural
Resistance for Landslide Stabilization and
Excavation Support, prepared by Ben
Turner, Ph.D., P.E.; Dan Ding, Ph.D., P.E.;
Erik Loehr, Ph.D., P.E.; and Paul Axtell,
P.E., D.GE, all of Dan Brown and
Associates. The research looks at the
problem where factoring structural
resistance may increase cost associated
wi th construct ion of structural
elements for slope stabilization and
excavation support as compared to
alternative techniques.
We encourage new members to join
our committee.

At the start of 2022, a questionnaire was launched among
the committee members to solicit ideas and suggestions as to
what direction, focus and activities the committee should
pursue. The answers, just compiled, are being analyzed. Areas
of interest include jet grouting; R&D in grouting materials,
methods and additives; standardized testing, assessment and
recommendations for chemical grouting; verification/
validation of QC/QA methods; implementation of DIGGS; and
promoting interest and education in the grouting field.
Also, a series of webinars are planned by various members
and experts, for the presentation of case histories and
theoretical lectures on grouting and jet grouting technologies.
