advancements and moving to a format that is more easily
shared and digested by today's standards.
Finally, the committee is keeping an eye on industry
changes that may have an impact on our favorite foundation
types. The introduction of Type 1L cement into most markets
affects the grout and concrete our installers use and we will
continue to stay apprised on the impact the Type 1L has on
production, quality, and performance.

The International Association of Foundation
Drilling (ADSC) and DFI's joint
Anchored Earth Retention Committee
has been very busy and continues to
work hard on deep foundation issues and
to plan events devoted to education,
research and finding common ground.
Currently, the committee has been
discussing the challenges and impacts
that could be associated with the
transition from Type I/II cement to Type
1L. There appears to be many different
characteristics between the two different
types as well as possible variations
across geographies. Our committee, as
Segar
well as other DFI committees, is focusing on research that
may help understand the engineering properties and the
construction challenges like workability and setup times. The
committee is interested in hearing about your experience
with 1L cement that differs from Type I/II cement.
Antonio Marinucci, Ph.D., P.E., and Eva Ieronymaki, Ph.D.,
continue to work on research regarding deflections of
temporary and permanent anchored systems. The
committee recognized that there is not a lot of consensus
information regarding deflections, and much of the
information is old. In addition, many codes and specifications
sometimes set arbitrary limits. This research is to
synthesize the available information to inform the current
state of practice and prepare for future advancements. The
committee is asking the membership to report what limits on
deflection have been set in their practice areas. Additionally,
as a part of this research effort, the committee is developing a
survey, to be sent to DFI membership and the deep
foundation community. Watch for announcements of when
the survey is available as the committee would appreciate
everyone's participation.
The committee continues its work on several other topics,
including metal creep of large threaded bars, as we continue
to work with the DFI-ADSC Joint Micropile Committee to
reboot the Hollow Bar State of Practice document and gain
further industry acceptance and use of hollow bars. As
always, participation is important, and the committee
welcomes any members looking to productively shape the
deep foundation industry.
COMMITTEE CHAIR JOHN ANDERSON
Manufacturers, Suppliers and Service Providers
DFI's Manufacturers, Suppliers and
Service Providers Committee was formed
to offer additional opportunities for our
corporate members to educate, provide
resources for and partner with fellow DFI
corporate members to improve their
processes and projects. Our activities are
both informative and fun.
On the information side, we are continuing to publish the
MSSP Spotlight eNewsletter, highlighting new products,
applications and more from our corporate members. We have
nine issues planned for 2023 featuring 36 of our corporate
member companies. Our committee will also present the
MSSP Expo Sessions at DFI's 48th Annual Conference in
Seattle, October 31-November 3. This parallel session held in
the exhibit hall provides a great opportunity for our corporate
members to introduce themselves, new products or jobsite
successes to conference attendees.
On the fun side, the MSSP Committee will once again host
an open mic event during the Annual Conference Welcome
Reception. We welcome you to attend and even share your
talents! You never know who might perform.
