Hurley Returns
to Arizona Law Firm
Scottsdale, Arizona-based Rose
Law Group, a real estate and
business law firm specializing in
cannabis, announced the return
of Ryan Hurley.
For the past seven years, Hurley
served as general counsel for
Copperstate Farms, one of the
largest greenhouse cannabis producers
in North America, where
his responsibilities included
compliance, contracting, HR,
joint ventures, risk management,
litigation strategy and special
projects.
At Rose, Hurley will chair the
firm's Cannabis Department.
He is a founding member of the
National Cannabis Industry Association
and played a critical part
in the 2016 and 2020 initiatives
to legalize recreational marijuana
in Arizona.

Services, a

appointed Jason
Nelson as CEO of its new Avail
Ag division, which delivers
industry-specific support to
new and existing businesses in
multiple cannabis markets.
Most recently, Nelson served
as CEO of Missouri's BeLeaf
Medical, where he oversaw
the company's expansion into
the adult-use market. Before
BeLeaf, Nelson spent six years
with Cresco Labs.
Nelson began his career at
Denver-based The Green Solution
at the time of Colorado's
first-in-the-nation transition
from a medical program to a
recreational marketplace.
Sze Named CEO at Decibel
Cannabis a Second Time
Canadian marijuana grower and
manufacturer Decibel Cannabis
Co. has appointed Benjamin Sze
as CEO for a second time. He will
take over for former CEO Paul
Wilson, who retired in March.
Sze was Decibel's CEO in 2020
and 2021 but left for family
reasons. He also is currently
the director of Torhill Estates
and Overton Environmental, a
tea-compost company where he
has worked for eight years.
Canopy Growth Alum Leads
Cannabis Council of Canada
Cannabis industry veteran
Paul McCarthy was appointed
president of the Cannabis
Council of Canada, the country's
largest industry-supported
lobby group. He replaces George
Smitherman, C3's longtime
executive director.
McCarthy worked for Canopy
Jason Nelson
Growth Corp., a licensed cannabis
producer, for a little more than
three years starting in early 2019.
His last positions at Canopy were
head of corporate policy and head
of international implementation.
McCarthy has more than
two decades of public-sector
experience, including as a policy
adviser to the Minister of Industry,
as a senior policy adviser to
the Minister of Labor, Housing
and Homelessness as well as
director of policy for the Minister
of Veterans Affairs and Associate
Minister of National Defense.

Appoints New CFO
Canadian adult-use cannabis
retailer High Tide has appointed
Mayank Mahajan as the
company's new chief financial
officer, taking over for Rahim
Kanji, who departed the Albertabased
company in February.
Mahajan has held senior-level
financial positions at several
companies, including manager
of finance reporting at Jubilant
Life Sciences Corp. in Spokane,
Washington; chief financial
officer at Metamaterial in
Halifax, Canada; and CFO at
Everyday People Financial Corp.
Village Farms Appoints
Finance and Ops Veteran
Vancouver, British Columbiabased
Village Farms International
appointed Carolyn Hauger to
its board of directors. She is
chief financial officer at TenNine
Technologies, a battery
nanotechnology additives
company. She previously was
CFO at Lion and divisional CFO
and senior vice president at
Clopay Plastics.
Before that, Hauger was an
advisory senior manager in
the Performance Improvement
Practice at Ernst and Young.
She also held various executive
finance and operations positions
over a 25-year tenure with
Procter and Gamble.
Hauger is independent director
and audit chair for Jericho
Energy Ventures and holds
board positions with Prestige
Properties Management and
Metal Resource Solutions.
