Innovations in cannabis lighting during the past decade have given businesses more flexibility in
overall cultivation strategy at a lower cost.
According to some experts, these trends in tech advancements will benefit growers as the industry
continues to mature.
" Cultivators have more lighting options available than ever these days, which is terrific, " says Galton
of Urban-Gro. " Moreover, due to the broad adoption of LEDs in commercial cultivation, there is also
a greater variety of fixtures available to accommodate operators with different priorities or facility
designs. "
Cultivation expert Ryan Douglas shares his experience with the evolution of cannabis lighting: " In
2013, I trialed some of the first LED lights on the market geared toward cannabis cultivation. They
were large, clunky and bleached my plants, " he says. " Nearly 10 years later, I'm amazed at how the
technology has evolved alongside growers' needs and cultivation strategies. Today's grow lights are
lean and powerful; some even offer customizable light spectrums. "

result of brands investing in research and development to
push the bounds of what's possible in cannabis lighting.
" With cannabis research growing and evolving daily,
light-manufacturing companies have had to evolve
with the science to make the best product possible, "

how companies market their products. Experiments have
been conducted over time analyzing the effect of different
intensities and spectrums on plants. These results have
paved the way for innovation in grow light technology. "

lighting manufacturers have been pushed toward a far
more transparent and data-driven approach to promoting
products, " Galton says. " In the early days of horticulture
lights, very few growers were measuring light intensity
in PPFD or looking at more advanced lifespan features like the L90 rating. Today, features like L90,
efficacy and PPF are key marketing points for many of the top brands. "
