MASTERING YOUR LIGHTING SYSTEM
Performance is a top consideration for cultivators shopping for lighting components.
Growing quality cannabis at scale, however, requires more than just owning the highest-rated bulbs
or state-of-the-art control systems.
Operators should have a thorough understanding of how much light their plants require during each
stage of the growing process-and when to make subtle adjustments to give crops the precise levels
of energy that they need.
MIMICKING MOTHER NATURE
Horticulture lights are designed to replicate the sun's energy output and stimulate maximum plant
growth via photosynthesis.
Does that mean cultivators must invest in lighting systems that simulate naturally occurring
daylight cycles and fluctuating UV levels, as experienced by cannabis plants grown outdoors? The
answer isn't as clear as night and day.
" Attempting to mimic nature indoors is tricky and may not be necessary, " notes cannabis
horticulture expert Ryan Douglas, a cultivation consultant based out of Portland, Maine. " Every
