THROUGH LIGHTING
The right lighting system can benefit indoor and greenhouse growers looking to improve
sustainability in their operations.
The right componentry can lower monthly overhead as well as mitigate energy use.
" Indoor cultivators should work with companies that help growers maximize their energy efficiency, "
advises Ryan Douglas, a cannabis horticulture expert and consultant. " They won't help facilities
use less light, but they will help (growers) find creative ways to buy, use and store energy-so their
electrical bill is lower while improving the overall carbon footprint of the grow site. "
MULTI-TIERED APPROACH FOR LOWERING ENERGY COSTS
According to Lance Melnichenko, who serves as the durables category director at Hawthorne
Gardening Co., cultivators can use lighting to lower energy costs in three key ways:
* LED technology: Light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs allow more efficient use of electricity. LEDs do
not generate as much heat as traditional high-pressure sodium (HPS) lights, which means less
demand on the facility's HVAC system.
