HIRING WORKERS WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS
Businesses in traditional industries might shy away from hiring workers with a criminal record.
Thankfully, cannabis is not a traditional industry.
Many cannabis businesses make a point to hire individuals who have been incarcerated for
cannabis-related crimes. These individuals often bring deep knowledge of the plant and have
experience working with retail marijuana consumers.
MJBizDaily reporter Solomon Israel highlights these hiring trends for cannabis retail businesses
looking to hire workers with criminal records.
Cannabis retail operations can take the following initiatives to find and hire workers with criminal
records:
1. Spread the word through relevant community organizations dedicated to helping newly freed
individuals.
2. Craft job postings that make a point to welcome equity applicants with criminal records.
3. Have a presence at job fairs and workshops to connect with applicants.
" People with (criminal records) are definitely very valuable in this industry-especially with
cannabis, " says Kobie Evans, co-owner of Boston cannabis retailer Pure Oasis. " You really want
subject-matter experts, people who can speak intelligently about the product. "
