We're semi-automated; we're still
very manual.
We've engineered our own
depositors. We've engineered our
own way of demolding gummies,
because here's the biggest
dilemma: I didn't have the
money, and then the equipment
doesn't really work at the end of
the game.
Large-scale confectionmanufacturing
equipment is
R&D equipment. What the big
companies use and put in their
R&D labs often has too high of
output for a cannabis company.
The value per gummy is much
different.
Don't overinvest in equipment
is my biggest advice to anyone.
How I survive is by finding allies in
the three or four growers that are
small Maryland operators, and we
kind of band together.
As Maryland becomes more of
an open market ... I think the way
that we'll survive there is still
through collaboration.
As we look now to expand
into other states ... and as I
move forward, I really look to
collaborate with other minorityowned
companies through true
partnership and M&A or just
contracts.
I think that we can build a
supply chain without having to
become vertically integrated-and
that could be a global supply chain.

Where we're located, we have
to interact with three different
municipalities, because we're kind
of on the outskirts. They all have
jurisdiction at times over various
components of our operation.
Looking back now, I would
probably focus more on
developing those relationships
early on versus sending
consultants to represent us.
(The consultants are) dealing
with local citizens and officials
that already viewed them as an
outsider, and they had no insight
into local politics.
They were already ostracized
just because they're not from
here. It was a very predominant
theme that we ran into.
