ISE in Barcelona
Draws Nearly 2,500
INTEGRATED SYSTEMS
EUROPE (ISE) in Barcelona
was deemed as a " roaring
success " with both in-person
and virtual elements. The
two-day event at Fira de Barcelona closed its doors with a
total of 2,421 people in attendance, including 1,431 in-person
attendees on Day 1, and 990 on Day 2.
The fi rst hybrid event from ISE, which combined live and
digital content, also achieved 8,000 registered for ISE Digital,
which had 120 live sessions and generated 13,759 unique views,
107,718 minutes watched (1,778 hours) and 442 online chats.
" This event is important for the AV and live events industries,
and for the city. It's been a 17-year journey to get to
Barcelona so it's bittersweet not to make the big bang we'd
hoped for our debut, but we know the value of live events
for forging trust, deeper business relationships and driving
business. I hope this sends a message of confi dence to cities
around the world that live events can be safe and successful.
We'll be back in Barcelona, with all our might, in February
2022, " says Mike Blackman, managing director, ISE.
All visitors within the venue had a negative COVID-19
anti-allergen test result prior to entry and wore FFP2 NR facemasks
inside the venue.
CES 2022 Will Be
In-Person Event
THE CONSUMER TECHNOLOGY
ASSOCIATION (CTA) has confi rmed
that CES 2022 will return to Las Vegas
as an in-person event from January
5-8, 2022.
Following the all-digital CES 2021, CTA will convene the
tech industry in-person and digitally, giving a global audience
access to major brands and startups, as well as industry leaders
and industry advocates. While the trade show takes place
from Jan. 5-8, Media Days take place Jan. 3-4, 2022.
Some 1,000 companies have committed to showcasing their
most innovative technologies in Las Vegas and companies are
continuing to sign up.
New for 2022 will be focuses on space technology and food
technology. The space tech area will be highlighted by Sierra
Space, a subsidiary of the Sierra Nevada Corporation, which
will showcase its latest innovation in space transportation -
the Dream Chaser spaceplane.
Advancements in food technology will address agriculture,
ingredient innovation, meal kits and deliveries, nutrition,
plant-based proteins, traceability, sustainability, vertical
farming and more. Companies like Grov Technologies, Impossible
Foods and John Deere will all be returning as exhibitors
this year.
ADT Takes Legal Action Against Vivint Over Patents
ADT HAS brought actions for
patent infringement against
Vivint Smart Home. Separate
but related actions were fi led
with the U.S. International
Trade Commission and in the
U.S. District Court for the
Western District of Texas.
Vivint has introduced a
series of products willfully
infringing upon several of
ADT's patents, the complaint
asserts. These patents
cover ADT's investments in
smart home integration, data
collection and control panel
functions and interfaces,
among other capabilities.
Specifi cally, according
to the complaint, Vivint
products including the
Vivint Home Security System,
SkyControl Panel and
Vivint Smart Hub violate
U.S. Patents No. 8,976,937
and No. 9,286,772, belonging
to ADT.
" Vivint launched its SkyControl
Panel and related
products with the express
desire, in the words of its former
CEO, to 'control anything
and everything inside the
home,' " says David W. Smail,
ADT's executive vice president
and chief legal offi cer.
" To gain an unfair advantage
in the smart home security
and automation market,
where ADT has long been
a pioneer and continues to
lead, Vivint infringes ADT's
patents covering, among
other things, predictive
analytics, detection and diagnostics,
and advanced user
interfaces including voice
control, " Smail says. " By
defending its robust patent
portfolio, ADT is determined
to protect its employees, its
customers, its products, and
its reputation. "
ADT is asking the ITC for
an exclusion order prohibiting
Vivint from importing
products, along with damages,
fees, and other relief.
Vivint responded by
saying: " Vivint believes
the claims asserted are
completely without merit
and that the complaint is a
reactionary countersuit to a
patent infringement complaint
Vivint had previously
fi led on February 25, 2021
against ADT in the U.S.
District Court for the District
of Utah. Vivint's complaint
asserts that ADT infringes
six Vivint patents and Vivint
is continuing to prosecute
its claims in that case. Vivint
intends to vigorously defend
against ADT's allegations. "
