U.S. Army Capt. Juan " J.J. "
Guerrero, who was gravely
injured during a combat
mission in Iraq. Guerrero's
specially adapted smart home
was built in Boerne, Texas,
through the Gary Sinise
Foundation's R.I.S.E. program.
Guerrero's long military
career began in 1990 as part
of the " Lava Dogs " based
at Marine Corps Air Station
Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. From
there he was deployed to
Saudi Arabia. Nearly two
decades later, on July 26,
2007, as a Captain in the U.S.
Army, Guerrero had completed
more than 350 combat
missions when his vehicle was
struck with fragments from an
explosively formed penetrator
(EFP), the most lethal weapon
American forces faced in Iraq.
Shrapnel penetrated the
bottom of his door, passed
through his rifle and went
through his right calf. He
suffered a broken tibia and
fractured left ankle, and both
legs were severely injured.
In June 2014, Guerrero
developed a rare form of skin
cancer, and his left leg was
amputated below the knee
two years later. He is a double
amputee below the knee
now, but is cancer-free.

IN CELEBRATION of Almo Corporation's 75 years in business,
during InfoComm 2021 in October, longtime commercial/resimercial
electronics distributor Almo Professional A/V focused
on " 75 ways of giving back. "
Among them, during the event in Orlando Almo made a
$4,075 donation to the AVIXA Michael Vergauwen Scholarship
to invest in future AV professionals, and donated thousands
of dollars-worth of private-label brand furniture featured in
the Almo booth to the West Orange Habitat for Humanity
ReStore.
" As a company, giving back to our industries and communities
is the most productive and rewarding way to celebrate our
75th anniversary milestone, " says Sam Taylor, executive vice
president and COO for Almo Professional A/V. " We've carefully
selected 75 different organizations representing causes
that are important to us, both professionally and personally.

as we are passionate about mentoring and supporting those
who will lead the AV industry in the decades to come. "
Biamp Charitable Grant
Program Enriches Oregon
Communities
BIAMP EARLIER THIS YEAR announced three winners of its
2021 Charitable Grant Program, which recognizes organizations
that share the company's vision for using audiovisual technology
and engineering to enhance the lives of those around us,
according to the company.
The 2021 winners are the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, Young
Audiences of Oregon & SW Washington, and the Oregon Lions
Sight & Hearing Foundation. Selected by Beaverton, Ore.based
Biamp's charitable leadership committee, each organization
receives a $7,000 to $10,000 grant in support of their
efforts to enrich local communities.
