Vivint Introduces
Emergency Smart
Water Monitoring
Service
One very large member of the CE Pro 100, Utah-based
Vivint, is deepening its portfolio with water monitoring.
The company, which was also recently acquired by NRG
Energy (see page 23) unveiled in November its Vivint
Repair: Water Sensor Experience, a brand-new emergency
water monitoring service.
The company states that it aims to help lower the
cost and risk of water loss events by alerting homeowners
and providing direct access to qualified cleanup
services once such an
event is detected.
The patent-pending
service is the latest in
the company's venture
into Smart Insurance
as it works to redefine
home protection for
homeowners. Water
damage is the number
one cause of household
loss, the average
insurance claim often
coming in at over
$11,000, the company
cites. However, historically,
these claims
come in after mitigation
activities have taken
place, Vivint adds.
With this service,
Vivint recently rolled out
its Vivint Repair: Water
Sensor Experience, which
employs sensors to help
accelerate mitigation,
streamline repair and reduce
water damages and
costs to benefit homeowners
and insurers.
Vivint says it is aiming to
help speed up mitigation, streamline repair and significantly
reduce those damages and costs, providing a cost
benefit to both homeowners and insurance providers
through reduced severity and risk during significant
events, and providing Vivint dealers an added value case
when introducing Vivint Water Sensors into homes.
" We're excited to offer our customers access to critical
water response services that have the potential to
significantly reduce damage and loss costs, especially as
speed to recognize and mitigate water damage is essential
to reducing losses, " says Ron Davies, chief insurance
officer at Vivint. " This offering is the latest in our mission
to rethink what traditional smart home protection looks
like and leverage our existing technology to lower the risk
of at-home emergencies for our customers. "

While some clients might have specialists hired for landscaping
and pool services, integrators are well positioned
to appeal in these areas with unique tech suggestions.

area itself.
Pool electronics is another
area where the recent
technology has grown faster
than the delivery channels;
many pools and spas are
being run on basic manual
systems simply because the
contractors servicing them
are either untrained in the
newer systems, or just don't
have the sales skills to make
an effective presentation to
the owners.
Newer pool/spa controllers
from major manufacturers
such as Pentair and Jandy
(pentair.com, jandy.com)
have wireless controls and
integration capability, and
can control heaters, pumps,
valves, along with lighting,
chemical management, and
other water effects. Distribution
is often limited to
pool contractors, but it's a
low barrier to entrance, and
in most cases, it's a simple
installation especially as an
upgrade to an existing older
system. Integrators can
choose to offer and learn
to install these systems
themselves, or partner with
a pool contractor or even
a pool service contractor
and an electrician to do the
actual installation.
Pool lighting can be
managed directly through
the pool controller and
its integration interface or
controlled by an external
lighting system. The topof-the-line
pool controllers
can even manage lighting
colors (as well as all other
functions, or potentially
integrate with third-party
control systems) from a
smart watch while the owner
is in the pool. Landscape
lighting is another feature
that is often siloed when it
should be an opportunity to
integrate with the home's
overall lighting scheme.
An amazing but mostly
overlooked option for pools
and spas is underwater
sound. Since water is much
denser than air, sound
actually travels better underwater
than through the
