NKBA Design Trends
Report Touts Wellness &
Sustainability Demand
THE NATIONAL KITCHEN & Bath Association (NKBA) has
released its 2023 Design Trends research report.
The annual report provides insight into the styles, colors,
product features, materials and technology that will dominate
kitchen and bath design over the next two to three
years. The information can be handy for integrators as they
work on those spaces and have discussions with interior
designers.
Some of the key findings include:
Vibrant Design: Bold colors, accents and mixed materials/themes
are increasingly a factor in kitchens and
baths.
Sustainability Matters: Manufacturers' sustainability
practices are becoming more important to designers as
they recommend products to clients.
Expanded Spaces: Breaking down walls to expand spaces
to add function or conceal clutter - for kitchens,
this means adding larger or double islands and walk-in
pantries; for baths, it means adding a closet, dressing
area and/or sitting room.
Wellness Drives Design: Especially in the primary bath,
where designers are creating spa-like experiences that
offer clients a retreat for the mind and body.
Tech to Make Life Easier: Technology continues to play
a growing, but clearly " functional " role in the kitchen
and bath. That includes solutions such as touchless faucets,
app-controlled appliances, app/voice control over
lighting, water, humidity, etc.
When it comes to sustainability, clients are paying closer
attention to more sustainable products and solutions such
as 100% LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, increased
natural light via low E windows, and EPA WaterSense faucets.
Wellness is helping to elevate design, NKBA notes from
its report. Homeowners are seeking sanctuary, especially in
the primary bath where designers are creating experiences
that offer clients a retreat for the mind and body. Points to
consider for dealers and design partners include:
Using earthy, muted colors and light wood tones to
create natural, calming designs
Spa-like features in showers - large two-person showers,
custom seats, multiple showerheads, zero clearance,
and steam/thermostatic showers
Sanitary/easy-to-clean surfaces - quartz/quartzite
(reduction of grout)
Larger windows connecting to outdoors and windows
above tubs to maximize natural light.

Donald Joins Colorbeam
as U.S. Director of Business
Development
MAKING A MAJOR COMMITMENT to the custom
installation market, Colorbeam has announced the hiring
of long-time market veteran Dave Donald. He will serve
the global lighting company as its new director of business
development, U.S., and Colorbeam says it looks forward to
leveraging Donald's market experience to grow its custom
installation business.
Donald's tenure in the custom electronics industry goes
all the way back to 1985 as the national sales manager for
Sonance. His experience includes stints with Triad, SpeakerCraft,

OneVision Resources and most recently with Wilson
Electronics. Donald was named a member of the CE Pro
Masters in 2018.

PureTech Supports
Broan-NuTone System
The PureTech Alliance, a national sales and service organization
representing health and wellness technologies
across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, has announced an agreement
to support the Overture whole-house automated
fresh air system from Broan-NuTone.
Overture uses sophisticated sensor technology to
detect changes in a home's air quality caused by increased
pollutants such as humidity, VOCs, carbon dioxide and
small particles. Overture activates the nearest ventilation
fan to eliminate the pollutant while simultaneously bringing
in fresh air.
