The show floor at the Venetian Expo in Las Vegas at the end of March felt more like a
pre-pandemic tradeshow.
The electronic security industry's masses converged at
the Venetian Expo March 28-31 for what turned out to
be perhaps the busiest ISC West on record. With its
packed aisles and bustling vendor booths, it appeared
likely the industry's largest and most important show
would register impressive attendance numbers - and
indeed when the official tally was announced, the
27,000 security pros at ISC West represented a 56%
year-over-year increase.
While foot traffic burned up the carpet inside the
convention center, outside the venue showgoers received
a chilly reception as it was likely the coldest ISC
West on record with daytime temperatures in the 50
and 60s and evenings dipping into the 40s. Regardless,
spirits ran high amid an energetic atmosphere that made
it easy to forget the past few years of pandemic-induced
doldrums. In fact, it seemed in many cases manufacturers
were making up for lost time with a large quantity of
new introductions.
More than 650 exhibitors were on hand to show their
wares to dealers, integrators and other practitioners
eager to learn about the latest products and build partnerships.
While video surveillance and access control
continued to dominate the landscape of new launches
and solution enhancements, artificial intelligence was
definitely the most buzz-worthy technology throughout.
However, AI remains in its preliminary stages as the market
attempts to grasp its capabilities and potential.
Evermore product enhancements and expanded
feature sets along with deeper integrations were widespread,
as were greater access to remote device and
systems management. Along with those developments
were new designs to ease and speed installations, more
user-friendly and aesthetically appealing user interfaces,
and additional service opportunities for dealers and
integrators to build more recurring revenue streams.
As usual, there were educational sessions, keynotes,
social activities and awards surrounding the expo procepro.com
ceedings.
Among the latter was CE Pro sister publication
Security Sales & Integration's SAMMY Awards and Industry
Hall of Fame inductions, and the Security Industry
Association's (SIA) New Products & Solutions Awards.
The official post-show numbers found that among
the 27K total including exhibitors at ISC West, the show
drew over 18,000 attendees, an increase of 56.2% from
ISC West 2022. Additionally, this year's show saw an
89.6% increase from 2022 for SIA Education@ISC session
attendance figures. On the whole, the expo offered 85
educational sessions.
" This year's ISC West was a tremendous success, as
measured not only by the strong show attendance but
also in the quality of the SIA Education@ISC programming
that was delivered, " says SIA CEO Don Erickson.
" The value of this ISC West was seen also in the many
meetings and special events that allowed the entire
security ecosystem to come together on important topics
like school security, standards development, cyberphysical
security, protection of critical infrastructure
and the growth of our industry's workforce. "
ISC West 2023 highlights, per SIA, included:
A full roster of intriguing keynote speakers: Theresa
Payton, first female White House CIO, technology
thought leader and cybersecurity expert; Jim Mercurio,
former executive VP & general manager, Levi's
Stadium; John Bertsch, executive director of Global
Safety and Security, IRONMAN Group; Joe Monroe,
chief of police, University of Kentucky; and Alison
Levine, first American women's Everest expedition
team captain
A redesigned Bridge, which came to life for three
days hosting sessions, award ceremonies and networking
events
Career Zone and Headshot studio, new for 2023
It was announced that ISC West 2024 is set for
April 9-12. ISC East 2023 will be held Nov. 14-16
at the Javits Center in New York City.
