THIS MONTH'S Editor's Note touched on one
component of the upcoming September issue
- the 40 Influencers Under 40 - but I want to
turn here to an equally important part of next
month's offering: the second edition of Collaboration
Today and Tomorrow. The supplement,
in its sophomore effort, aims to impress. Editor
David Danto, IMCCA's director of emerging
technology, will bring together an array of AV
and IT thought leaders to explore the nexus of
commercial and the home.
Specifically, Collaboration
Today and Tomorrow will boast a
" home sweet home " theme. This
aligns with the upcoming CEDIA
Expo (Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 in Dallas),
which CI's parent company,
Emerald, stages. (And, serving as
a strategic programming partner,
IMCCA will bring insights and
subject matter experts to a variety
of CEDIA Expo activations.)
Collaboration Today and
with Evan Kirstel. A B2B thought leader and
technology influencer, he has worked with
many A-list clients and explored topics like AR,
blockchain, the cloud and VR. Kirstel will elucidate
how home environments will adapt and
change as the line of demarcation separating
" home life " and " professional life " fades. Kirstel
will offer a future vision wherein people are just
as capable of effectively achieving occupational
and educational objectives at home as they are
in commercial environments.

to marshal and
synthesize the
knowledge
we've
collectively
gained about
how we can

pandemic forever altering how

What's more, it will seek to
marshal and synthesize the knowledge we've
collectively gained about how we can work
and learn from home effectively. Finally, it will
dive into expectations - specifically, how our
expectations for the home have changed, and
should change, given ever-evolving technological
capabilities. As you can see, this is a
far cry from a " resi " focus; we'll not dwell on
consumer technology. Rather, we'll probe
how commercial technologies and applications
have migrated to home environments, as
well as how those working from home can collaborate
effectively with those who populate
traditional commercial AV environments.
It'd be nigh impossible to preview the entire
work and learn
from home
effectively.
PhD, CTS, director of learning
environments at USC, will harness
his years of experience and offer
an authoritative view of distance
learning: what works, what
doesn't and what we've learned
during the pandemic. Clearly,
there are crosscurrents here.
On one hand, campus-based
social interactions are a huge
part of the college experience,
and it's a fool's errand to try to
replicate them virtually. What's
more, learning institutions point
to campus-based investments to
justify enormous tuition costs. That argument
would mean much less for distance learners.
However, there's no doubt that many students
love the convenience and comfort of learning
from home, on their own schedule, at their own
pace, with on-demand content consumption.
Honestly, I can't wait to read Joe's piece myself.
Collaboration Today and Tomorrow will offer
touches of security and residential, as always,
while also delivering the already-beloved " Honor
Roll. " Avoiding the age-related restrictions I
discussed in the Editor's Note, " Honor Roll " will
highlight six individuals - spanning metrics of
diversity - who deserve your attention.
