Friends Village at Woodstown began as a nursing
home in the 1970s and was expanded to a CCRC
in the late 1990s. This project is a significant
renovation and repositioning at the Friends Village
at Woodstown campus to meet the needs and
expectations of the next generation of seniors.
In recent years Friends Village has been having
financial deficiencies and operational challenges.
They have already made some changes to stabilizing
operations. This includes temporarily closing
their skilled nursing. Friends Village board and
management sought out a like-minded provider
with the expertise and resources to further stabilize
their operations and reposition their community
to meet the marketplace needs. The new provider
is proposing major additions and renovations.
The existing healthcare facility will be recast
to right-size the care options and make room
for new apartment buildings. Currently, most of
the skilled nursing units are double occupancy
without private bathrooms or private showers.
In the future, skilled nursing rooms except for
one will be private, with private bathrooms and
private showers. The assisted living/memory care
rooms will be grouped in a household model that
will provide mostly private rooms with private
bathrooms. To convert the campus to this model,
the skilled nursing building will be demolished,
and several small additions are proposed to the
existing Health Center.
New construction will add 106 new independent
living apartments and expand the commons
to include an art room, an indoor pool, and an
outdoor dining porch with patio. A walking path
loops around the entire grounds and connects all
buildings and outdoor activity areas. Additionally,
an existing house on the property will be renovated
as housing for employees.
