Describe your business in one sentence.
ForgeWorks provides innovation and implementation
services for a pro-aging culture and community. Key
focus areas include dementia education, marketing
and sales, team development, and innovation and
ideation. We are a team of practitioners who are also
" envisionaries. " We want to help your team find a
path forward.
How do you educate clients on the
importance of using design to enhance
resident engagement and experience?
Design is very important, especially in memory
care. When we built Meadow View Memory Care in
2020, we incorporated research-based design. The
entrance to every resident room looks different-

whether it's paint color, door design, door handle, or
mailbox. This multi-sensory approach has resulted
in less need to redirect residents to the " right " room.
Also, we incorporated biophilic design in as many
ways as we could-from sound to light fixtures to
carpet to murals. Last, we created a way for couples
to stay together. Independent living apartments
attached to a memory care suite allow staff to care
for the person with dementia while the other spouse
remains independent. A video on the homepage of
our website details our journey of design. While we
are not architects, we are practitioners and envisionaries.

What's one major design or senior-focused
trend that's shaping your work today?
And how so?
In a world of competing virtual distractions, we all
crave authenticity. This translates to dining spaces
that feel like a cultural restaurant experience, fitness
spaces that inspire physical and mental well-being,
and residences that are comfortable, approachable,
and authentically home, not home-like. While we
have seen this trend in independent environments,
I see this trend continuing to percolate into higher
levels of care to provide rich experiences through
the aging process.

In what sector of senior living do you
expect to see the most growth in the
next few years?
One of the most precious commodities we have
is land. The finite reality of this resource has inspired
many to think differently about what expansion
opportunities look like, giving rise to thoughts of
more vertical development. We work to understand
the benefits of maximizing land value and minimizing
development and infrastructure costs to create
greater connectivity and lifestyle opportunities. In
many cases, the ecological advantage supports the
ability to preserve and create more open space and
landscape amenities.
